Sulhamstead and Ufton WI

The Women’s Institute (WI) was formed in 1915 to revitalise rural communities and encourage women to become more involved in producing food during the First World War. Since then the organisation’s aims have broadened and the WI is now the largest voluntary women’s organisation in the UK. The WI celebrated its centenary in 2015 and currently has over 210,000 members in around 6,600 WIs.

The WI plays a unique role in providing women with educational opportunities and the chance to build new skills, to take part in a wide variety of activities and to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities.

The Sulhamstead & Ufton WI (covering the villages of Sulhamstead, Ufton Nervet, Ufton Green and Sulhamstead Abbots and the surrounding area) meets at 19:30 on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at the Sulhamstead & Ufton Nervet Village Hall (see map below). The venue is accessible with a ramp and nearby parking.

As well as our regular monthly meetings we have several special interest groups for those who enjoy reading, craftwork, Mahjong and walking. Click on the buttons below to find out more. We also arrange outings; we have been to local farms, a private fashion show at John Lewis and a private tour of Englefield House walled garden. We are planning a visit to a vineyard and the D Day tapestry near Portsmouth.
